The Savoy scrapbook excerpts presented here are a labour of love for Hilda Mleczko and David Bailey. They highlight a thirty-year collaboration of mutual interest to chronicle and preserve the exceptional legacy of the Savoy Theatre.

Since the Savoy Theatre opened as “Cape Breton’s Entertainment Show Place” in 1976, Hilda Mleczko, a devoted Savoy patron and avid lover of live theatre, compiled 30 scrapbooks of artists and performers who appeared there. David Bailey, an integral part of the theatre, both on the technical side and practically everything else, supplied Hilda with posters, signatures, programs, and ticket stubs. Together they managed to preserve a certain time and capture the joyful gatherings of so many people in one of the beautiful theatres in Eastern Canada.

The Savoy Theatre would like to thank Bernard MacKinnon, a past president and board member, and founder of the community theatre group, The Bayside Players, for his patient work of readying the scrapbooks for the website.

So, take that proverbial stroll down memory lane and bring back old hidden glimpses of past performances as the lights come on again at the Savoy Theatre.
