Message From Our Chair
Come on in!
If you’re like me, the Savoy Theatre holds a special place in your heart. Regardless of your age, when you attend a performance at this iconic landmark you know you’re in a special place. Even now as I write this, I think of the chandeliers, the red curtains and the craftmanship. The energy is always palpable while waiting for a show to begin; and then, phones are put away, the lights dim, the curtain rises, and the performers whisk us away to forget about the outside world, if even for a little while.

My first memories of the Savoy Theatre are from when I was a little girl, when we would go to the Saturday matinee. Trish, yes Trish who is the current box office manager, would take our money and we’d step inside, from Union St in those days, and head straight to the canteen for a popcorn and graveyard pop (every flavor on the machine lol).
As I got older, I started to learn and appreciate the history of the building and its significance. It has hosted a multitude of local events such as, band concerts, high school graduations, Miss Teen Cape Breton pageants, dance recitals, etc. And it has also hosted Internationally acclaimed artists and shows such as Maggie that have gone on to Broadway!
There are so many performances that graced the stage before my time and those I was lucky enough to witness.
If the walls could talk, they would sell tickets!!
Some of my most cherished memories happened inside these walls and I am sure there are many yet to come. My wish is for everyone to be able to experience and create their own special memories for many years to come.
This was my motivation when I joined the Board; I take the stewardship of the Savoy Theatre to heart. Two years from now we will celebrate our 100th Anniversary, if you haven’t been here yet, I invite you to join us soon and if you are already part of our Savoy family, I want to take this opportunity to thank you for your patronage and support. Without you, we wouldn’t be here!
