SAVOY THEATRE
POSITION – BUSINESS MANAGER
 
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Post secondary education in business or related field or 5 to 7 years relevant work experience.
  • Must have 3 to 5 years’ experience as a business manager in theatre or a similar field.
  • Must have a working knowledge of financial statements including budgeting and forecasting.
  • Have demonstrated experience in relationship building. Relationship building within the three levels of government considered an asset.
  • Possess demonstrated skill in the area of HR Management.
  • Experience with boards and board structure considered an asset.
  • Possess a strong commitment to grow the organization.
  • Possess excellent time management skill.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel
  • Work in a collaborative nature with staff and artists.
  • Have a knowledge of or be willing to learn the Occupational Health and Safety requirements within Nova Scotia.
  • Proficiency in Theatre Manager software is considered an asset
RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Oversee the scheduling of staff as well as recruitment, training, performance reviews and other activities involving personnel;
  • Monitor day to day operations to ensure all aspects are completed on time and in an efficient and productive manner;
  • Coordinate with other staff members to facilitate communication for the smooth running of the theatre;
  • Create forecasts for projects and proposals for government funding initiatives with associated staff members and develop initiatives to achieve these goals;
  • Review financial reports for accuracy, completeness and whether they are in line with current projections and ultimate business goals;
  • Understand the inner workings of the theatre, including the organization chart, policies and other components;
  • Build relationships with staff members, clients, patron and other key players, and create a sustainable communication system;
  • Ensure compliance with government regulations and company policies across the entire company, including implementing risk management and safety guidelines.

 JOB DESCRIPTION
POSITION: Director of Programming
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • MUST have a post secondary education in a theatric field or relevant field or equivalent knowledge and experience
  • Must have 5 -7 years’ experience in a supervisory/management role in theatre
  • Demonstrated HR experience
  • Possess knowledge of budgets and generally accepted accounting principles
  • Knowledge of provincial and federal funding available to Arts and Culture
  • Demonstrated strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Able to develop relationships quickly with all stakeholders
  • Must have knowledge of the consumer spending patterns in the current economic climate
  • Knowledge of the Food Service Industry considered and asset
  • Proficiency in Theatre Manager software is considered an asset
  • A developed rapport within the theatre community is considered an asset (local and national)
  • Be open to recommendations made by staff and the Board with regards to operations
  • Be comfortable in a behind the scenes role
  • Must have knowledge of event planning/fundraising
  • Organization a key
RESPONSIBILITIES:
·       Plan program content for the upcoming year and beyond
·       Prepare budgets required for each production and event
·       Select appropriate talent through the audition process
·       Manage the operations of dinner theatre
·       Form relations ships with current sponsors, plan packages and recruit new sponsors
·       Recruit and hire all non-talent positions for a production i.e., director, stage manager, production manager
·       Contracting staff both through Canadian Actors Equity and Non-Equity
·       Fundraising
·       Handle all aspects of the rental process including artistic riders, rental contracts and managing of ticket sales
  • Act as a liaison between actors, talent and management
  • Organizing of all schedules for rentals, productions, rehearsals along with lobby performances
  • Have a knowledge of or be willing to learn the Occupational Health and Safety requirements within Nova Scotia.
